Our PHA course is designed especially for facilitators and covers not only effective leadership during the study itself, but also in the preparatory and post-analysis stages. Participants are instructed in a range of PHA techniques, including HAZOP, HAZID, Process Hazard Review (PHR), What-if analyses and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA). Each of these methodologies is suited to particular situations, for example early stage process designs, existing processes, low-hazard processes or equipment operation.

The course will help delegates to effectively facilitate different types of PHA. It will not only cover how facilitate effectively in the PHA study itself, but also how to prepare for a study and how to manage the time between and after the study.

Nigel Allen - Technical Manager (Major Hazards) DEKRA

In his role as Technical Manager – Major Hazards, Nigel Allen provides expertise in technical leadership on major hazard issues such as hazard identification techniques (e.g. HAZOP), quantified risk assessment, and the SEVESO III Directive.

Dr. Joseph-Marc François - Managing Director at DEKRA Process Safety France

Dr. Joseph-Marc François obtained a PhD in fluid mechanics at University Claude Bernard Lyon I. After gaining a precious industrial experience over 10 years in vibrations propagations studies and numerical simulation of various chemical processes for 8 years, he specialised in process safety at Rhone‑Poulenc (then Rhodia and now SOLVAY) where he was the Manager of the process safety laboratory and a recognised process safety engineer.

In 2003, willing to expand his competence in Process Safety, he created the French branch of the Chilworth group (now DEKRA Process Safety).

Under his leadership DEKRA Process Safety in France has grown as a technical reference and expert leader group in the area of process safety in France and Europe.

Dr. François has a very significant and unique experience in process safety. He has served on several European standardisation working groups Comité Européen de Normalisation (CEN) and OECD-IGUS (International Group of users of Unstable Substances).
