It is essential to understand the system, the relief scenario and the physical properties under both normal and relief-event conditions before determining which calculations to use. Without examination by an experienced practitioner, there are many more ways to fail than to succeed.

This webinar will explain the ins and outs of ERS and the various scenarios that can impact determination of the correct vent size. We will discuss how tests are designed to adequately simulate process failure conditions as well as how to interpret these test results. These steps, in addition to determining the system type, must precede the selection of calculation methods.

Meet the trainers

John Wincek

John Wincek is the Consulting Manager for DEKRA Process Safety – Americas. His 30 years of industry experience, including 20 years in the specialty chemical realm, have provided hands-on experience with chemical systems.

He specializes in Chemical Reaction Hazard Assessments, which includes evaluation of emergency relief scenarios.

Under his leadership DEKRA Process Safety in France has grown as a technical reference and expert leader group in the area of process safety in France and Europe.

Dr. François has a very significant and unique experience in process safety. He has served on several European standardisation working groups Comité Européen de Normalisation (CEN) and OECD-IGUS (International Group of users of Unstable Substances).

Keith Middle

Keith Middle is a Principal Process Safety Specialist for DEKRA Operational and Process Safety. Over a career spanning more than 40 years, he has acquired considerable experience in polymers, specialty chemicals, fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals and petrochemicals.

His particular expertise covers Chemical Reaction Hazards, Relief System Design using DIERS Techniques, LOPA and SIL Determination. Keith is the DEKRA Global Champion for ERS Design and is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers. standardisation working groups Comité Européen de Normalisation (CEN) and OECD-IGUS (International Group of users of Unstable Substances).
