2026 Chemical Industry Awards
DEKRA Process Safety Shortlisted for "Chemical Industry Service Provider of the Year" at the 2026 Chemical Industry Awards
04 Jun 2026DEKRA Process Safety, a specialist in process safety consulting, testing, and training with over 35 years of industry experience, is proud to announce its shortlisting for the Chemical Industry Service Provider of the Year Award at the 2026 Chemical Industry Awards. Organised by the Chemical Industries Association (CIA), these awards are the premier accolades for the UK chemical and pharmaceutical sectors, recognising outstanding achievements, innovation, and excellence in service delivery.
DEKRA Process Safety has been shortlisted alongside a number of prominent and highly regarded service providers to the UK chemical industry, including Armstrong Environmental Ltd., AXIOM, Brenntag UK Ltd., CDR Pumps (UK) Ltd, Gower Chemicals Limited, Projex Solutions, TUV Rheinland, UNICAT Technologies, and Veolia ES (UK) Ltd. The winner will be announced at the Chemical Industry Awards Dinner on Thursday, 18 June 2026, at the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel, Manchester.
Demonstrating Excellence and Industry Credibility
The "Service Provider of the Year" category recognises organisations that have delivered outstanding contributions to business performance improvement, demonstrated innovation or excellence in service delivery, and established measurable, client-validated success. Being shortlisted in this category, against some of the most established names in the UK chemical services sector is a significant recognition of DEKRA's standing and impact within the industry.
DEKRA's shortlisting is underpinned by its rigorous and highly collaborative partnership with a prominent global contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) based in Northern Ireland. This engagement exemplifies DEKRA's unique position as a trusted adviser rather than a transactional contractor.
When the client constructed a state-of-the-art facility in 2023, potential overpressure design gaps in the newly installed reactor relief systems were identified. Rather than recommending a costly, complete redesign from scratch, DEKRA's specialist engineering team conducted a pragmatic, systematic review of the existing Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) work. This approach minimised redundant work, significantly reduced project costs, and accelerated the timeline to compliance, a hallmark of DEKRA's practical, client-first methodology.
A True Partnership: Insourcing Expertise
Over a multi-year engagement, DEKRA and the client successfully completed several critical process safety work packages, including pressure relief support for the flagship 16A manufacturing facility, dispersion modelling to map emergency event scenarios and underpin robust emergency procedures, two-phase relief calculations for complex reactor systems, and relief support work for reactor jacket systems.
The outcome is a facility in which all foreseeable overpressure and deviation scenarios have been identified and fully protected against, using current state-of-the-art design methodologies. Critically, the dispersion modelling further supported the development of effective emergency response protocols, ensuring that the risk posed by potential emergency events is fully understood and quantified.
By prioritising knowledge transfer and active education throughout project delivery, DEKRA ensured that the client’s internal teams retained the technical competence required to maintain safety barriers long after project completion. This reflects DEKRA's core philosophy: that clients cannot outsource safety. There is a duty to ensure that a client understands what has been done and possesses sufficient competence to ensure that safety and regulatory compliance endure well beyond the conclusion of any engagement.
Industry Recognition
The shortlisting highlights DEKRA's 35-year legacy of helping chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturers navigate complex regulatory landscapes, mitigate electrostatic and thermal hazards, and achieve operational excellence. It also reflects the breadth of DEKRA's integrated service offering, spanning specialist process safety management, engineering consultancy, laboratory testing, and the DEKRA Process Safety Academy training programme.
Stephen Ransome, DEKRA Process Safety, commented:
"Being shortlisted for the Chemical Industry Service Provider of the Year is a tremendous honour, and one that reflects the dedication and expertise of our entire team. In process safety, success is ultimately measured in the avoidance of incident, in the robust barriers that protect people, assets, and the environment. This relationship is a strong example of what becomes possible when two organisations commit to genuine partnership, open communication, and a shared responsibility for safety. We are proud to be recognised alongside so many respected names in the UK chemical industry, and we look forward to the Awards Dinner in June."
