Build Safer, More Resilient Operations

Process Safety Management Training

Process Safety Management is a disciplined framework for managing the integrity of operating systems and processes handling hazardous substances by applying good design principles, engineering, and operating practices. It is widely credited for reductions in major accident risk and improved process industry performance. Process safety practices and formal safety management systems have been in place in some companies for many years. Over the past 20 years, government mandates for formal process safety management systems in Europe, the U.S., and elsewhere have prompted widespread implementation of a management systems approach to process safety management.
This course provides an introduction to process safety management and guidance on developing a process safety management system. It uses the Centre for Chemical Process Safety’s Risk Based Process Safety Management framework and our consultant’s knowledge and experience to present industry best practises.

Learning objectives

By taking this course, you will:
Understand the difference between occupational safety and process safety
Learn how to identify process safety hazards, asses the risks they present and identify safeguards.
Understand the key tenets of a process safety management system:
    • Understand hazards and risk
    • Managing risk
    • Learning from incidents
    • Commit to process safety
  • Understand the key elements underpinning the above tenets and see how industry implements them.

Who will benefit?

The course is designed for those who need an overall understanding of process safety management and especially those responsible for implementing process safety management in their organisation. This includes:
  • Site leadership teams, e.g. operations, maintenance, logistics, engineering, safety, etc)
  • Functional managers in these areas.
  • Safety managers/ professionals with corporate or site responsibilities encompassing process safety
  • Corporate leaders (operations, maintenance, logistics, engineering, safety, etc)
  • Process safety engineers
Any industry where hazardous materials are processed, or hazardous conditions are created can benefit from the process safety management approach as it helps identify and manage all process safety risks caused by the materials and the process, rather than being restricted to the ones covered by sector specific regulations.
